014: Things are Different Here

Hi. I'm afraid I must have gotten turned around somehow. I'm here in a really large library when I should be at the police station. And I... don't seem to be dressed quite appropriately for consulting - not that the police aren't expecting eccentricity when they finally get desperate enough to call in a psychic.

And... wow. Now that I stop to listen? This whole place seems... not quite normal.

Anyone around who can give a girl a hand?

[OOC: As 4 year old Rain talked her mother into going away to the beach when her father had to go out of town on a business trip. Thus, her mother never died, Rain was raised in a happy stable household, learned to develop her gifts with the help of her Lakota grandmother and a few others, and currently works as a psychic consultant for a number of police departments. She's not broken anymore. Oh, and yeah, her name isn't Rain.]

"You can go deeper than surface thoughts?" Tony asked. This was definitely good to know. Something like this could really help Rain. "That's impressive. And sure, I don't mind. Although I was wondering if I could ask a favor of you afterward?"

Isabel nodded. "I can read pretty much anything unless the person's learned how to shield and even then if I push I can get a lot. Hurts though and I have to spend ages in a dark room recuperating, but I can do it. And sure, I'm glad to do you a favor. Anything - within reason, of course."

She winked at him.

Tony gave her his most charming smile in return. She was making is surprisingly easy for him to remember that this wasn't the girl he knew.

"I was wondering if you could write down for me what all you can do," he said. "And maybe how you learned to get better control of it? Like exercises you did?"

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure," she said, looking rather curious. "I can do that. Mind if I ask why? It's not exactly something you can just pick up if you don't have an innate talent for it."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I have friends who can do similar things," Tony explained. "I thought if I had tips from someone like them but with better control, I'd be able to help them with their ability."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Then in that case I'd be doubly glad to," she said seriously. "I know how lucky I am to have had so much support. Not everyone with my gifts does. My mother and her mother were wonderful. I don't know what I'd have done without them."

"I think you would have managed," he said with a knowing smile. "And what is that accent, by the way? I can't quite place it."

Re: *Action Time*

She laughed. "Part Lakota and part Guatemalan. Another reason I'm lucky. Both of my parents' cultures have a long tradition of acceptance of the sort of gifts I have. I spent a great deal of time with both of my grandmothers' people learning more about what I am and what I can do."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Part Lakota and part Guatemalan?" he said, raising an eyebrow in appreciation. "That is definitely an exotic combination. I've never heard of anyone from both those heritages before. I suppose that's why I've never seen anyone as beautiful in quite the same way as you are."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled at him a little seductively. "Glad to know you like what you see."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The smile took him aback almost completely. That was not a look he would have thought he would ever seen on Rain's face.

"I do," he told her. "But first you should check and see if I'm telling the truth. I could just be crazy."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
She laughed. "Hey, you drove up in a flying car, just like you said. Puts a lot of my doubts to rest. But yes, I'd like to check. All you have to do is relax and think about what you want me to know. You shouldn't even be able to tell I'm looking, unless you're a sensitive yourself. And I'll know if you're telling the truth."

[ooc: Just put in your narrative what you want her to be able to read from him. And he can tell her anything he wants - even about Rain if he wants to go that route.]

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Alright, I can do that," he said. Tony fought the urge to close his eyes, as if that would make it any easier for her to do what she needed to do.

"This place is a nexus of different realities. People from all different worlds and times come here," he said. "The deities and the City put us through curses, that alter reality. I've made a lot of friends here, one of them is a very lovely young woman named Rain who has an incredible gift of being able to read people's emotions and similar feelings. She's a very incredible woman, even if she has trouble seeing it."

Isabela listened, frowning slightly. "Wow. Truth, but still hard to take in."

She gave herself a moment to take in everything she'd picked up. She could tell there were things he hadn't said, but she was too polite to probe for more even though it intrigued her.

"This Rain... when you say her name... she looks a lot like me."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"She does look a lot like you," Tony said, slowly nodding his head. He wondered how much of this she would remember once this was over. He hoped not much, Rain seemed to be hard enough on herself as it was. She didn't need anything to compare herself too. And as far as Tony was concerned, one version wasn't a better person than the other.

"But I've heard that sometimes happens here."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh... interesting," Isabel said thoughtfully, then grinned at him. "So, we've established your truthfullness. Now what?"

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would really appreciate it if you could get those notes," Tony said, thinking of how this could really help Rain.

"Other than that, we can get something to eat."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
She gave him another once-over and smiled. "I'd like that," she said. "I'll write that stuff up for you, we can have a bite to eat, and... see what happens."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony never thought he'd think it, but he wished he wasn't so damn attractive. Because Rain hitting on him was somewhat awkward. Mostly because she was very attractive.

"Alright, that's fair enough," he said with a smile. "Why don't you have a seat and I'll take you to a place where we can get a bite to eat."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I get to ride in the flying car?" she said with a smile, pulling a pad of paper and a friend from her bag. "I've got to say, that would be a new one for me."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"You get to ride in a color chanting, flying car," he told her as he slid back in to the drivers seat of the car.

"And I promise, I won't do anything too crazy while flying."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Color chanting?" she asked with a grin as she began to jot down all the different things she could do. "What the heck is that?"

"And honestly, you can do any crazy thing you'd like. I think today is my 'the world's turned upside down so do whatever you want' day."

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just what is sounds like, the car changes colors. I couldn't decide with what paint scheme to go with," he explained. "So I decided I shouldn't have to limit myself."

Raising an eyebrow a bit he grinned. "World turned upside down, huh?"

[ooc: uhh, forgive my type fail on chanting/changing?]

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I swear, this is the most surreal day..." she shook her head, laughing.

"Yeah, the world's turned upside down, flying cars that change color... time to throw caution to the winds, I think."

[ooc: Hee! No worries!]

Re: *Action Time*

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"This is a very surreal place," he said. "But it's not too bad."

Tony buckled in his own seat belt and turned to look at her, nodding at hers. "You might want to make sure that's nice and snug."
